Top Tips for Posing in a Wedding Dress

If you've found your dream dress, you might now be wondering how to look your best in every single photo.  Content writer, Katie Pierce, shares some top tips for posing for photos in a wedding dress.

Knowing how to pose can be easy, but it can be tricky if you don't have the proper guidance. Lucky for you, this article offers just that. You can use these tips to ensure your wedding photos are stunning and memorable.

Smile Naturally

The best way to learn to pose for photos in a wedding dress is to start with something easy. Try smiling naturally, and see how the angles change.  Photographers are very good at guiding you, and they may ask you to adjust your position slightly. Try looking at the camera or leaning over on your left side.

The main thing to remember with photos of you in a wedding dress is that you don't want to be stiff or robotic in any pose. Instead, you want to look natural and show your whole personality in each photo. That's the best way to get engagement and wedding photo ideas.

There's no right or wrong in capturing unique poses in a wedding dress. You have to take the chance when it presents itself and be creative with the angles of your shots.

Choose Your Colours Wisely

When choosing your dress, pay attention to how well the different colours look against your skin tone. For example, many women find that pink, peach, and nude colours flatter their skin.

If you prefer to wear ivory for your wedding gown, choose a photographer who knows how to work with ivory outfits.  Check your photographers portfolio, some use much darker images, while others prefer a fine art look.  Choose what you feel best reflects your style and theme.

Avoid Overdoing It

Posing for photos in a wedding dress isn't about going all out with your expressions and movements. The problem is that many brides make the mistake of attempting to make every photodynamic moment enthralling.

The key is practicing moderation so that your photos have a natural feel while enjoying yourself and having fun. You don't want to look like you're posing awkwardly, but you also don't want to look bored.

The key to success is naturally learning to pose for photos in a wedding dress while still staying true to yourself. That's the best way to get engagement and wedding photo ideas.

Prepare A Shot List

Before the big day, it's always a good idea to list poses you want to try out during your wedding reception and share your thoughts with your photographer.

Once you have a list of poses to try, you can start practicing them. Before the wedding, ask your photographer where the best angles are and what poses will look best in certain shots. Then, once the ceremony is over, find some special spots where you can try different poses while still looking great in photos.

Pose Erringly

Finding the balance between your natural motions and the stances you wish to experiment with for your images is important. It's easy to think that too much movement will look awkward, but it's the opposite. Because of your natural movements, photos of you posing in a wedding dress will look more natural and lifelike than anything else.

But being too rigid when posing for photos is something you wouldn't want.  So instead, try to relax and let the flow take over your body. You'll be surprised by the results.

Just remember, you don't have to be a professional model to pose for photos in a wedding dress. The most important thing to remember is having fun and enjoying yourself while you pose for pictures at your wedding reception.

In Summary!

In conclusion, it's always been said that confidence is the most attractive feature one can possess. And it holds true in photos. So if you're confident and relaxed while you pose for your wedding photos, you will look fabulous.

When capturing unique poses in a wedding dress, there's no wrong and right answers. It's all about experimenting with different angles and finding the best ones for you.

And, of course, be sure to practice moderation with your poses. You don't want to look stiff or awkward. Instead, you want your photos to be natural and fit your personality. For more wedding tips and tricks, check out our blog now.

What is a Sample Sale?

A sample sale is when a Bridal shop sells their sample dresses off the peg.  As we are continually buying new dresses we have to say goodbye to some of our old faithfuls to make space for new ones.

However, savvy brides can use this to their advantage and bag themselves a designer bridal gown for a fraction of the retail price.  Often the perfect marriage of the right dress, in the right size at the right time all come together!

Please see our Sale for sizes and prices. We only have one of each dress in stock so if you see what you love get in touch!

When buying a sample dress at sale price, you pay in full and take the dress away with you on the day.
We always advise brides then when coming to a sample sale they are in a position to buy their wedding dress, and have already tried bridal gowns and have a good idea of what  they're looking for.

Kate's Top Tips for Choosing your Dream Dress

Congratulations on your engagement! What an exciting and special time for you! So you’ve said yes, but where to start on finding ‘the one’?

Our first top tip for finding your dream wedding dress is to do your research first. A great way to do this is to create a Pinterest board, which you can then share with your bridal consultant when you go for your first appointment. If you don’t know where to start, our suggestion would be not to over think what suits you and what doesn’t, but just pin whatever you are drawn to. Don’t be bamboozed by all the choice, a good bridal consultant will help guide you in the right direction once they have got to know what you are looking for.

On your first appointment, try to relax. It can be a little nerve wracking seeing yourself in a wedding dress for the first time, but the right boutique will make you feel calm, relaxed and comfortable. We love having a laugh and a giggle with our brides, and making this process as relaxed, special and fun as possible. When you arrive at Dress Dreams, we will sit down with you and offer you a glass of fizz, a cup of tea (or a calming camomile tea if needed!) and have a good chat.  This helps to put you at ease; helps you to get to know us and us to get to know you; and helps us understand your vision for your wedding. Our goal is to help you find a dress that reflects your character, personality, body shape and venue, a dress that you not only love but that makes you feel incredible.

If you haven’t tried on any dresses before, we would recommend trying on a variety of styles and shapes, so that you know you have tried everything and will not be wondering what if once you have made a decision. A good bridal boutique will give you the time to do this.

Whilst it is lovely having your tribe with you, we find bringing too many people with you to your appointment can be confusing. Remember people usually like what they like and their taste may be different to yours. Stay true to what you know suits you and what makes YOU feel good. We have a lot of girls who come to us (secretly!) on their own, to do a bit of research and trying first, then come back with their Mum or best friend and show them a few of their favourites. This works really well as your guests know that you already like the dresses you want to show them.

When you do find your dress, try not to keep looking! There is so much out there now, it is easy to get your head turned, but remember you chose the dress that suits YOU and makes YOU feel amazing.
